THE OFFICIAL OLYMPIC FLAGPOLE

 Here's a fun tidbit of Celebrity lore.....Did you know that there was a flagpole at the entrance to CSC that was used at the pageantry ceremony of the VIII Olympic Winter Games of 1960? Walt Disney was the "Chairman of Pageantry."  I often wondered what happened to that flagpole.  One day I was having lunch at the Disney Studio commissary in Burbank, when I happened to notice a flagpole exactly like the one that once stood at the entrance of CSC!  Did Disney retrieve it and display it at the studio in Burbank? Or was it one of many?  Who knows.......I snapped this picture of the one in Burbank.

DRAGON'S LAIR PREMIERS AT CELEBRITY SPORTS CENTER!

My wife Sue and I were fortunate to have worked on Don Bluth's Dragon's Lair back in the 80's. You may not realize that the famous laser disc arcade game premiered at Celebrity!  We started working at Don Bluth Productions back in 1980 on "The Secret of Nimh." That film was followed by 3 laser disc games, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Dragon's Lair 2, then we worked on An American Tail and Land Before Time.  All three games were once at Celebrity swallowing up a lot of quarters from players with an audience of folks watching the action over their shoulder.
